Is Fat “Bad” For The Human Body and Making You “Fat?”

Are dietary fats really bad for us? Or have we been fed a load of “baloney” all of our lives?

I want to debunk the myth that fats are bad for the human body and causes diseases and obesity.

This of course is a huge topic to discuss, so I might be breaking this up into different blog posts for easier reading digestion. (Sorry… bad pun!)

For years you have been told to stay away from fats.

That you shouldn’t eat butter, oils, or bacon…

And to stay away from ALL saturated fats because saturated fats cause heart disease and leads to obesity.

But is this all really true?

Or have we been told lie after lie after lie when it comes to Dietary Fats?

Well let’s all go back to the 1950’s where our story of fats begins….

In 1953 Ansel Keys an American Psychologist, wanted to explore his hypothesis that Saturated fats cause heart disease, high cholesterol levels and obesity.

He began a study that became very famous called “The 7-country study” (linked below)

Key’s studied collected data of men and women over several different countries.

He concluded that saturated fats cause cholesterol levels to go up, which leads to heart disease, heart attacks and obesity.

The one big problem was that Key’s cherry picked the data.

He kept the data that supported his Hypothesis and thew out the data that did not coincide with his flawed thinking.

With this flawed theory in hand, Key’s was able to convince the Government of the United States to recommend a “Low-Fat High Carbohydrate Diet” to all Americans.

And the low-fat diet craze was born.

Since 1953 we all have been lied to.

Dietary Fats… and even Saturated Fats DO NOT cause heart disease, high cholesterol levels or obesity.

We have been sold a bill of goods, which has cost millions of people around the globe to suffer from poor health, diseases, metabolic dysfunction, and obesity.

Fat is NOT your enemy.

In fact, the right types of dietary fats can be very healing for the body and can help reduce a lot of the diseases that we are facing today.

Let’s take a look at Saturated Fats for example.

Why is it called “Saturated” Fats?

From a chemical standpoint, saturated fats are simply fat molecules that have no double bonds between carbon molecules because they are saturated with hydrogen molecules. Saturated fats are typically solid at room temperature.

Now the question remains… is it harmful for the human body to eat more saturated fats.

The simple answer is no!

Saturated fats are more stable and less prone to oxidation within the human body.

What this means is that eating saturated fats will not cause the body to create free radicals because of oxidation.

And this means LESS inflammation in the body… and inflammation is the root causes of all diseases within the human body…

When we compare what is happening to the body when we consume a diet that is higher in carbohydrates, we see a different story…

When you consume carbohydrates past 40 percent of your total caloric intake, we see A LOT of oxidative stress as well as an increased inflammatory response. This causes the formation of free radicals within the body.

Now here is the deal!

Inflammation brings about CHOLESTEROL!

Many people think that eating fats drives up Cholesterol…

However, eating dietary fat has NOTHING to do with higher cholesterol levels.

It’s the increased inflammation that drives the body to produce more cholesterol which shows up in the arterial walls.

Dietary Fat’s DO NOT drive-up inflammation in the body.

In fact, they do the exact opposite!

By consuming a nutritional protocol that is higher in fats you will become healthier because glucose levels will significantly drop, which drives down the inflammation within your body!

When this happens, our fat storing hormone Insulin, will be supressed and under control.

Leading to a healthier body and a total reduction in body fat.

So, as you can see, eating dietary fat is never harmful for the body!

If anything, you should be including a healthy does of all types of fats in your daily nutritional intake. (Including SATURATED FATS!)
